The Lord’s Prayer is one of the most well-known prayers in the world. Jesus gave it to his followers as a simple way to pray — not as a performance, but as a pattern.
If you’re new to prayer, start here. Read it slowly. Let the words steady you.
Try praying it like this (60 seconds)
Read one line slowly.
Pause.
Add one sentence of your own.
Example:
“Give us today our daily bread…”
= God, would you provide what I need today — strength, peace, and help.
WHAT IS THIS PRAYER SAYING? (A simple guide)
1) “Our Father in heaven…”
You are not praying into the air. You are speaking to a God who is close, personal, and good.
2) “Hallowed be your name”
A moment to breathe and remember: God is holy, trustworthy, and worthy of honour.
3) “Your kingdom come…”
A way of saying: God, bring what is right and good into my life, my home, my community.
4) “Give us today our daily bread”
Ask for what you need — physically, emotionally, spiritually.
5) “Forgive us… as we forgive…”
A place to be honest. To receive forgiveness. And to ask for help in forgiving others, too.
6) “Lead us not… deliver us…”
A simple request for strength, protection, wisdom, and freedom from what harms us.
